As the world's first smart gateway SoC, ST's ST2100 STreamPlug combines a high-performance powerline communications (PLC), security and peripheral functionality with support for hybrid network processing subsystems using popular wired and wireless standards. The ST2100 StreamPlug supports popular protocols such as PLC HomePlug AV and HomePlug Green PHY, as well as IEEE 1901 powerline broadband connectivity.

ST's partnership with Cosmos with the ST2100 STreamPlug SoC has resulted in innovative technologies such as the Cosmos Gateway Home Network Hub and other smart energy devices. The Gateway One enables users to set up multi-bearer home networks that combine Ethernet, WLAN, PLC and multimedia devices, greatly enhancing the opportunity to improve energy efficiency, security, comfort and convenience throughout the home. Cosmos' Table Bridge and Home Area Network (HAN) Bridge enable multi-occupancy housing to benefit from smart energy applications while addressing consumption and billing challenges. the M1I and M3 smart devices provide energy management, as well as network connectivity to AC power lines plugged into devices. the M1I is optimized for industrial applications, including charging, plug-in electric vehicles are featured for domestic use, while the M3 is.

Further Technical Information

The ST2100 STreamPlug SoC application processor has a 330MHz ARM926EJ-S core operating system and provides an external memory management subsystem. In addition, a complete PLC modem and analog front-end, USB 2.0 and Ethernet interfaces, color LCD controller and a dedicated security engine supporting advanced encryption algorithms such as AES, DES/3DES and IPS EC are integrated on the chip.

From a software perspective, the VM supports guest operating systems such as the Linux kernel 2.6 distributed directly by ST to provide interfaces. PLC protocols include support for the latest IEEE 1901 Broadband over Powerline (BPL) standard, as well as popular HomePlug standards such as Green PHY optimized for carrying HDTV and VoIP traffic and HomePlug for smart HomePlug AV 200Mbps for grid applications.
